Helping employees get reimbursed faster and enabling managers to approve expenses more efficiently.

A Before and After Comparison of the Expense Landing and Creation Pages

Opportunity

Oracle invested in a top-down effort to develop next-generation products and services, selecting four key products to showcase this transformation.

Among these, Expenses was selected due to its high visibility, with over 100,000 active users across 369 companies. The previous version hindered productivity with its complex workflow and poor user experience.

We implemented significant improvements to the existing tool and established a visionary, streamlined workflow to enhance the experience for both expense submitters and approvers.

Team: Starting out as the only designer, I grew the team to five designers, a creative technologist, and dedicated research partner. I lead design and research from vision to delivery.

Impact

Developed vision for a new expense system that adheres to strict regulations while automating expense submissions, approvals, and audits.

Our work was showcased in a keynote at Oracle OpenWorld 2019, and MBX generating enthusiasm among leadership, development, and product management teams, and setting a new benchmark for industry standards.

Worked with the Policy and Compliance department at Oracle to streamline expense requirements. For example, we removed the description requirement for taxi and transportation expenses, making submissions faster and improving the chatbot experience.

Simplified information architecture and navigation on the existing experience from 26 entry points to 18.

Reduced time to complete expenses by introducing in-line editing and batch item editing.

  • Lead workshops to synthesize and prioritize findings with product leads.

  • Conducted multiple rounds of RITE testing on initial concepts and UX.

  • Developed Jobs-to be done framework.

  • Product analytics used to establish baseline and revealed key insights that informed the product experience.
